Where to begin?What to expect?
During the first 3 consultory sessions we can look together at your issues, expectations, readiness to change as well as a connection between you and me. After that we can either agree on a psychotherapy, short-term psychological support or I can suggest a different direction.
During the first appointment, I try to understand your situation and what the difficulty is. I also ask questions about age, family and professional situation, health and medication taken, previous experiences with the psychologist/psychotherapist/psychiatrist. We also have the opportunity to see if we managed to establish contact and whether it is safe, comfortable, promising.
The second appointment involves an interview about your life history – childhood experiences, relationships with parents, peers, any significant events in the your history that may have an impact on your current functioning. It is important to remember that you do not have to discuss everything in detail right away if you do not feel ready. The second consultation aims to show the background and context to your current struggles.
The third appointment is a joint decision on how to approach the issue. We discuss your expectations regarding therapeutic sessions, I explain how therapy looks like and on this basis we agree on a therapeutic contract. It’s a time for me to decide whether I have the competences to help you with your issue, or similarly, you decide whether you are satisfied with the outline of therapy plan, whether it is in line with your expectations. If so, we establish therapeutic goals, i.e. you ask yourself the questions such as: What do I actually want from these sessions? How will I know that the therapy has worked?
How long does psychotherapy last?
Depending on the nature of the diagnosed difficulties and the client’s readiness for change, therapy can last from several months to several years. In order to see the first effects, you should give yourself at least 6 months, but remember that this is an individual matter. People in a temporary crisis or those who are highly motivated and self-reflective may feel better after just a few meetings, while people with more difficulties need even several years to make lasting changes. The duration of therapy depends on the depth of the disorder/severity of the problem, on individual commitment, on the proper selection of a therapist.
What do I treat?
I work with adult patients, in-person or online, who suffer from: depression, low self-esteem, stress, sucidal thoughts, exhaustion and inability to rest, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, anger issues, relationship difficulties, IVF and fertility challenges, bereavement and loss, eating disorders, life crises, breakdowns, OCD, BPD and other persionality disorders.
What is my work style?
I work in the integrative approach. This means that I draw from many psychotherapeutic approaches and adapt methods to the individual needs of the client. I combine a psychodynamic perspective with the experiential nature of work on the ‘here and now’ derived from Gestalt. An inseparable element of my work is also a workshop of cognitive-behavioral tools, but also developing the client’s potential, which is characteristic of humanistic trends. In my approach, both the client’s current relationships, their family situation and difficulties, as well as understanding where their problems come from and looking at childhood are important. Together we strive to discover at a deeper level what prevents the client from improving their quality of life. I also assign a lot of therapeutic tasks. All methods are aimed at allowing the client to enter into deeper contact with themselves and thanks to this use their resources and act in accordance with their needs.
